Beginning May 1st 2019, SriLanka is inviting Citizens of 30 Nations including United States, United Kingdom, European Union, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malyasia, South Korea and Thailand, on arrival Visa FREE, for the next 6 months. The visa once given is valid for 30 days. Earlier to this, the citizens of these countries were paying 20-40 USD, as Visa fee to enter SriLanka for tourism purpose.

On arrival visa could be obtained at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. This has been introduced as a temporary measure for 6 months, to entice tourist during the low season of Yala monsoons, which last from May to August. If the government sees success with this temporary measure, they would make it permanent after seeing the results of this new temporary measure.
SriLanka has definitely seen a big surge in the number of visitors since 2009. The country is also pondering on giving Visa FREE access to SAARC countries. All these measures are being taken by the government to welcome more tourists to the country.
