Grenada Planning:
This was the last leg of my journey on this trip, Visiting Carribean nations. My routing was San Juan–>Saint Kitts–>Antigua–> Barbados–>Grenada or from SJU–>SKB–>ANU–>BGI–> GND going by airport codes. Grenada is the Spice Island in the Caribbean.
I visited Grenada in April 2023.
Capital of Grenada 🇬🇩 is Saint Georges
Flights:
I flew out of Barbados on Caribbean Airlines to reach Grenada. I bought this ticket for 189$ with Chase Preferred Credit Card. Chase Preferred Credit Card gives 5 points per $ spent on travel. But purchases must be made on Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal.
The Outbound Flight from Grenada was on American Airlines for which I paid 268$. For this purpose, I used Citi American Airlines AAdvantage Platinum Select Credit Card. It pays just 2 miles per dollar spent, but I got my Checked Bag FREE.
Besides, Travel to Caribbean Countries, Central America countries, Canada and Mexico is considered domestic travel by airlines in the US.
Currency:
Currency of Grenada is East Caribbean Dollar. US Dollar is generally accepted everywhere. ECD is pegged to US Dollar. 1 USD=2.7 XCD
Accommodation:
I stayed on this Island for one day. On this trip, I used Airbnb website/App for all my bookings. When I looked for accommodations, I was surprised to see that most of the hotel/resort accommodations were on the expensive side. Either they were charging lots of points on the stays or I had to spend upwards of 200$ per night. I rather wanted to save my points for better stays elsewhere.
- Places I visited are in Blue.
- Airport in Grenada is in Purple.
- Places of Interest I could not visit on the Island are in Green.
Boots on the Ground:
Grenada is the Spice Island in the Caribbean. It’s very famous specially for NUTMEG. I came across lots of street vendors and stores selling spices here. I visited the Grand Etang Lake which is the crater lake at the center of the Island.
Additionally, I spent some time at the House of Chocolate Grenada Museum in Saint Georges. I peeled some roasted Coco beans and put them in the crusher to make the Coco Paste. It gave me a good perspective of chocolate making process.
Later I hiked to the top of Fort George in St. Georges to get beautiful views of the Port and the capital city of Saint Georges. The view from the top is absolutely gorgeous.
Lastly, I got my feet wet at the Grand Anse Beach. I headed to quieter Magazine Beach in the morning before heading to the Airport, as this beach was right by the Airport.
