Planning for Liechtenstein:
Liechtenstein is a German-speaking, 25km-long principality between Austria and Switzerland in the Alps. The official currency of Liechtenstein is Swizz Francs, but Euro is generally accepted everywhere. The capital of this country is VADUZ. I visited Liechtenstein 🇱🇮 in July 2023
Bus to Vaduz, Liechtenstein:
I went from Lampugnano bus station in Milan to Rheinparkstadion, Vaduz in a Flix Bus. The price of the round-trip ticket was 73.97$. There is only one bus from Milan station to Vaduz every day. The bus leaves Milan at 8:30 am and reaches Vaduz around 1:10 pm. The return bus from Vaduz to Milan is at 3:25 pm, which reaches Milan at 8:05 pm.
Particularly this Bus ride was the most memorable one for me as it passes thought breath taking scenery of beautiful mountains and lakes on the way to Vaduz. Notable among them are Lake Como and the Scenic Alps. The bus stops for a break in the city of Chur in Switzerland, which is a Gorgeous Alpine city in Alps. From Chur, the Bernina Express train crosses the Alps into Italy and this ride is filled with serene views of the Majestic surroundings.
Accommodation:
I stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Milan North in Milan, when I visited Liechtenstein. I paid for this hotel with 30,00 Hilton Honors Points per night + 5€ city taxes. As I own Hilton Honors Surpass Credit Card, which gives gold status with Hilton chain of hotels, I opted to get Complementary Breakfast as my perk.
Boots on the Ground:
I stayed in Vaduz for under 3 hours, but this was good amount of time to explore the capital city of Vaduz in Liechtenstein. From the bus stop Rheinparkstadion, Vaduz City Center is 9 minutes by walk. Along the way to the City Center, I observed that there are a lot of fruit trees specially Apple trees on both side of the street.
When I reached the city center, I asked them for the Map of the City. Additionally, I noticed that they were stamping the passports with the stamp of Liechtenstein for 3€. I readily got mine.
Vaduz Castle:
This is the official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. At the time of my visit the Castle was undergoing some renovation work because of which visitors were not allowed to go to the Castle.
Vaduz City Center:
We could get a slow train from the city center for 11€, that would take visitors to all the important places in Vaduz, but this is not necessary as all the attractions are at walkable distance.
The other notable attraction here in Vaduz is the Postal Museum.
The Cathedral of Vaduz or Cathedral of St. Florin is a neo-Gothic church in Vaduz.
Music School, Parliament Building, Liechtenstein National Museum, Liechtenstein Mit Hilti Art Foundation, Old Cinema, Townhall are all in walking distance from the city center.
Schaan and Liechtenstein festival happens every year at the start of July. If you are around that time in this area, you would be treated to concerts, music, art and culture with food and entertainment.
Forst high rope adventure park is located south of Vaduz at 10 minutes driving distance. This adventure park offers rope adventures for adults and kids. More information on this park could be found here
If you are driving your own car, a visit to Gutenberg Castle could be added to your itinerary. Since I was traveling by bus, I just glanced it from the bus on my way to Vaduz.
Schellenberg has 2 sets of castle ruins that are worth a visit, if you have time and you have a car on hand. Specially Obere Burg (Upper Castle) could be reached easily on foot.
Conclusion:
Liechtenstein is a tiny country located in Alps. I couldn’t believe how close all the attractions in Vaduz are to each other. This beautiful country in alps is well worth a visit. I have to point out that, I especially enjoyed the bus ride to this pristine country surrounded by natural beauty.
