Milan Italy – 12th Country Visited

Planning for Milan Italy:

Milan is in Lombardy region of Italy, also called one of the Fashion Capitals of the World. I visited Milan, Italy in August 2023.

Reaching Milan Italy:

From Pisa, I left for Milan by a Flix bus for which, I paid 21€. From Lampugnano bus station in Milan, there is Subway train that could be taken to central Milan for 2.20€. Additionally, a 3-zone train/Subway ticket could be purchased for 7.60€ for 1 day that covers all the tourist attractions in Milan.

Accommodation in Milan:

Boots on the Ground:

Most of the attractions in Milan are easily accessible by the Subway train. Some of the must-see attractions in Milan are as follows:

1.  II Duomo:

This is the world’s third largest Cathedral after the ones in Vatican City and Brazil. This Gothic style church can hold up to 40,000 people.

2. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II:

This Galleria adjacent to DUOMO is filled with Luxury Shops and Elegant Cafés. This Galleria has glass-vaulted arcades and intricate mosaic floors it boasts and its beautiful design is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. This shopping place houses the famous Mosaic BULL. Tradition says that if a person spins around three times with a heel on the testicles of the bull from Turin coat of arms this will bring good luck.

3. Teatro alla Scala:

La Scala is a historic opera house in Milan. The season begins in early December and runs through May. If there is not a rehearsal in progress, the museum offers access to see the inside of the opera house.

4. Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper:

The Last Supper is a Mural Painting by the Italian High Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. It’s painted on the wall in the refectory of the Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan between 1495 and 1498. The painting is called “Cenacolo Vinciano”. Gothic brick church of Santa Maria delle Grazie was begun around in 1464.

5. Castello Sforzesco:

This is a medieval fortification located in Milan. Castello houses a series of museums and art collections. It was one of the largest citadels in Europe.

6. Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology:

More information on this museum and how to purchase the tickets (10€) is available here. In the Museum Leonardo da Vinci Gallery has working models of many of his inventions and machinery, created from da Vinci’s drawings. The highlights of the museum include the Space exhibition with lunar rocks, the Vega launcher, the Enrico Toti submarine, the Conte Biancamano ocean liner, locomotives and airplanes.

7. Porta Nuova:

Porta Nuova is Milan’s stylish business district, which was once occupied by train yards and factories. The Bosco Verticale is a complex of two residential skyscrapers designed by Boeri Studio and located in the Porta Nuova district of Milan, Italy.

After visiting Milan, I headed to NICE France by train, with a stopover in Ventimiglia, the last stop in Italy before entering France. The price of the ticket from Milan to Ventimiglia is 24.40€
